Far be it from me to really tackle this question of “facing your truth”. Last night I heard you, on your late show, talking about who people actually thought they were fooling when they raised walls of their lies and put on varying veneers of vanity. I was too drowsy to respond or react then but I think it’s hitting me now. I think we only fool ourselves, like I’m doing right now in this queue to buy *gob3 from the same woman I bought it from in my kindergarten days, just to have a semblance of warmth communicated to me. These days ,the complexities of life hardly make anyone look you in the eye but then, “Daavi I’ll buy…”

Someday I hear Frank croon on the Mp3 player. How nice it is to have a ‘someday’
It seems to me like such a luxury to hope, you know: to have certain expectations of the pleasant kind? Frank keeps singing about how lovely his beloved will look decades from now in that distinct manner only he has in-depth knowledge of. I’m hooked! Someday, I know you’ll come back too or perhaps I might think of the way you looked that night you drove away in Abeiku’s car ,leaving me and the kids too shocked to process what you meant by your ‘this ain’t working anymore’

Time if anything is what I have a miniscule amount of. The priest says his prayers, switches are flicked ,the warden smiles, discomfiture and then… darkness.

Her : Call me by my name darling ’cause you ain’t got what I got! (Long-drawled laughter)

My rates are pretty ‘neat’ too! Oh come-on darling leave them other hoooo-niiii-es. Look at all thiiiiiis! (she is saying while turning 360 degrees.) I’ll treat you goooooood!

For the life of me , I don’t know why she and the others shout their words.

Me: Well, ma’am…errm…”Cynthia” I would like some directions to Ashaley-Botwe please.

*gob3= a Ghanaian dish prepared with beans and cassava flakes.

*Ashaley Botwe= a place in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.

Ps: Did you like this post or nah? Please let us hear your thoughts in the comments section and errrm… A like and a share don’t sound so bad no?🤗

Bisous,

Vanity card #4

Last week, I penned this piece while I thought about how unconnected we all seem to be and yet , our individual lives intertwine to form this beautiful tapestry called life! It’s incredible really_ this whole concept of “connected unconnectedness.” Anyway, I’m really proud of our stories and how they shape us and whatever your story is as you read this, I want you to take pride in it! Thanks for being your relentless self!
